Last Sunday, a new stake was created in the Republic of the Congo. The second stake to ever operate in the country, the Makelekele Republic of Congo Stake was organized from a division of the Brazzaville Republic of Congo Stake and includes the following five wards: the BaCongo, Guynemer, Kinsoundi, Makelekele, and Mfilou Wards. The Church originally organized the Brazzaville Republic of Congo Stake in 2003.

So Kinshasa/Brazzaville continues to be the metro area with the most stakes in Africa. Has anyone heard why the temple is taking so long?
Average time between ground breaking and announcemets is usually 3 to 4 years or longer on average.
I was told there simply are not enough trained construction workers to build to the standards required by the Church. To solve the problem, young men are being trained to build by actually building a series of ward and stake buildings in DRC. As they become professional, work will then begin on the temple. This is projected to take a few years, I've been told.
The Bariga Ward, Lagos Nigeria Stake, was created on 10 August. There are now 8 wards and 4 branches in the stake:
Bariga Ward
Ikeja Ward
Ikorodu Ward
Ketu Ward
Ogba Ward
Ojodu Ward
Surulere Ward
Yaba Ward
Akute Branch
Ibafo Branch
Igbogbo Branch
Itamaga Branch
I just saw on ldschurchtemples.com that the Coquimbo Chile district was made a stake last Sunday. I believe this is the first stake created in chile since 1998. It is also of course the first stake created since the big discontinuing of stakes in Chile in the early 2000's that reduced the number of stakes in Chile from 116 to 74.
Great news from Chile.
I see that it is now listed as a stake, however all 6 units are still listed as branches. Not sure which became wards.
I wouldn't be surprised if by the time the DRC temple is dedicated another one will be announced. The growth of the church in the DRC is wonderful to see and will hopefully continue apace, with several temples in the country someday. I just hope growth will continue rather than slow down so that someday soon we will see the DRC in the top 10 of countries with the most members.
There are indeed 75 stakes now in Chile
I think having a locally built temple will give the people a deeper appreciation and connection to it. I understand why President Hinckley pushed the 50 temples through in 1997-2000 at break-neck speed, but still part of me feels that it would have been better to individualize them a bit more. the fact that over 10 years after the dedication of the Detroit Temple some chapels in the temple district still had up artist renderings of the temple that clearly were not drawn with the actual site in mind to me just felt off.
Could the overall percentage of French speakers in church membership be rising?
Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Rwanda, Congos and Cameroon?
