A member has reported that a new stake was created last Sunday in Taiwan. It appears that the Kaohsiung Taiwan Stake was divided to create a second stake in the city. I will provide more details when they become available. There are now 11 stakes and two districts in Taiwan.
I originally posted this information on the Cities Without A LDS Church Presence Blog and I apologize for the mistake.

This is good news! When I served in Taiwan a little over 40 years ago Kaohsiung was just a tiny branch--one of 9 on the island. There were about 1000 members vs. over 50,000 today. We have an elder serving from mainland China in our ward in Salt Lake City--one of 2 mainland Chinese missionaries in our mission. He is from Baoding, about 100 miles south of Beijing and he says there are many Chinese-speaking branches in China.
Our mission then was huge--it extended from Taiwan and Hong Kong to the Philippines and India.
Not in Church Directory, yet.
Kaohsiung has 9 Wards in it.
The new stake is called the Kaohsiung Taiwan East Stake. It has 7 wards and 1 branch, leaving the Kaohsiung Taiwan Stake with 6 wards and 1 branch.
In order to create additional wards, Church leaders also discontinued the Ping Tung Taiwan District. Four of the five branches went to the East Stake to create two new wards and one branch. The fifth branch went to the Kaohsiung Stake. Other realignments and branch absorptions created an additional ward as well. Most of the units' names were changed.

In Taiwan they are moving away from using numbers for units. Taipei Central Stake just went through a reorganization back at the beginning of the year. Besides changing the boundaries and losing one unit, all wards in Taipei except the 7th (English) received a name. I heard the restructure could be related to a possible singles ward created in the near future. Now with a equal number of priesthood throughout the units it will be easier to created a singles ward. There were too many wards, if singles were to leave, that would have no Priesthood.
I live in the English ward, but work for the Church.
Is there an english speaking branch or ward in Taiwan? I might be getting a job there.
i want to know where out church address in taichung.
