The second stake this year was dissolved in California. The Barstow California Stake had four wards and two branches and was absorbed into neighboring stakes. The stake in Barstow was organized back in 1959.
While the Barstow stake was dissolved, a nearby stake the Apple Valley Stake was organized a year ago or so. So the net effect, it's really just renaming the stake...
Now each of the 3 High Desert Stakes, Victorville, Apple Valley, and Hesperia all have 10+ wards. So at some point soon, the Barstow Stake could get reorganized.
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, the Apple Valley Stake was organized in 2006. As for why the Barstow stake was dissolved, my guess is that maybe there will be some congregations which will get combined in the coming months because they are too small. I do not know what the size of most wards are like in that area, but that is typically the trend when stakes get combined, especially in California.
