A small, homogeneously Muslim country in East Africa, Djibouti has had an LDS presence for many years among United States military personnel stationed in the country. Area leadership has not appeared interested in pursuing culturally-appropriate missionary efforts in the country despite the government permitting religious freedom and Christian leaders in the country reporting that they are able to operate freely. Nevertheless, strong ethnoreligious ties with Islam pose significant challenges for proselytism among most traditional ethnic groups. Prospects for growth currently appear most favorable among ethnic minority groups and foreigners.
