New Stakes Created in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma

Within the past couple weeks, the Church has undergone a massive realignment of stakes within Arkansas, southwestern Missouri, and eastern Oklahoma. Three new stakes were created as a result of this realignment.

The Bartlesville Oklahoma Stake was organized from the Tulsa Oklahoma and Tulsa Oklahoma East Stakes and includes the following nine wards and two branches: the Bartlesville 1st, Bartlesville 2nd, Bartlesville 3rd, Claremore, Cleveland, Elm Creek, Independence, Owasso, and Ranch Creek Wards, and the Pawhuska and Skiatook Branches. There are now eight stakes in Oklahoma.

The Bentonville Arkansas Stake was organized from the Rogers Arkansas Stake and includes the following seven wards: the Bella Vista, Bentonville 1st, Bentonville 2nd, Centerton, Central Park, Elm Tree, and Grove Wards. There are now seven stakes in Arkansas.

The Monett Missouri Stake was organized from the Joplin Missouri and Springfield Missouri South Stakes and includes the following five wards and two branches: the Aurora, Carthage, Granby, Monett, and Stockton Wards, and the Cassville and Joplin YSA Branches. There are now 16 stakes in Missouri.

I would like to continue sharing updates of newly created units in the church. However, I have noticed that they are not all updated in CDOL at the same time. Some trickle in several days - if not weeks - after the creation date. So my updates may not be super quick moving forward, but my hope is that by waiting a few weeks, there will be fewer additional posts catching the stragglers.

Also, in the interest of time, I will not be posting the names of all the units in a particular stake or district - only the numbers. If anyone has questions about a specific stake or district that I can answer through CDOL, I would be happy to look it up for you.

I guess I have a question in CDOL if you can answer it. Do you know the total number of districts and branches that are case sensitive? I don't really care about the individual countries, I just want to have accurate numbers for the church as a whole. If it is not allowed I can just try to calculate it when they update things at the end of the year.

Michael, I eventually set my window for new creations to 6 weeks (42 days) just to get a good chance of catching them.

Sometimes it does take time. I was amazed you were able to get some stake creations on the Sunday of creation. I usually didn't see new creations until Monday and they would come in all week.

Article on the creation on 9 November of a third stake in the Pittsburgh, PA area:

When I read the article I thought that maybe the Pittsburgh West Stake info was dated; I see it was created September 7 of this year. Better late news than no news.

I was looking at all the places that go to the South African temple. East Africa needs one beyond Congo, for sure. Uganda? Kenya? I know the church is still new there, but an earlier temple would be preferable, right? That would help places like Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Burundi... So much more to do.

Any info on the quaraí brazil district being discontinued?

It appears that the Quarai Centro Branch and the Santa Helenara Branch (both in Quarai, Brazil) have been absorbed into the Artigas Uruguay Stake. Those two branches are right across the river border from Artigas which has multiple units, so it makes sense to have those two branches combined with the Uruguayan stake despite the international border and language difference. The surrounding Brazilian countryside appears to be sparsely populated and is now the Brazil Santa Maria Mission Branch.

Interesting that the Monett Missouri Stake has only 2,386 members in its boundaries despite new stakes in the US generally having at least 3,000.

Option 1: The numbers are old. It is however unlikely that they are very old, and that since that time 614 additional members would have been added. AU-sendbacks might account for some of the difference, but most likely not for all of it.

Option 2: An exception was granted. There is really no apparent reason for it since the original stakes were large but not impossible to administer efficiently. If an exception was granted, this would probably lead to further exceptions in similar cases in the near future (such as Meeker, CO; Apex, NC; Pierre, SD District becoming a stake).

Option 3: The policy has been changed. In my opinion that would actually be a logical step, although I would be surprised if the Church went through the backdoor like this.
