Angola to be Dedicated for Missionary Work

Angolan members report that later this month, an apostle will visit and dedicate Angola for missionary work. Furthermore, a third branch was just created in Luanda, and the city may become a district in the near future. Groups also operate in different areas of the country. The Mozambique Maputo Mission administers Angola and has reported frequent challenges obtaining visas for missionaries. Angola offers tremendous opportunity for church growth, but these prospects will likely not be fully realized unless greater numbers of local members serve full-time missions and are regularly involved in member-missionary work.

sweet! I loved the Angolans I met in my mission in Portugal, and I really hope they open a full mission there, now that the civil war is over (hopefully permanently).

I served in Spain and met a couple of Angolans, both investigators and members, who were anxious for missionaries to arrive. This news pleases me. Fortunately, the church has at least a million native Portuguese speakers and thousands of former missionaries who served in other Portuguese-speaking countries to support the work there.

I must say I am most anxious for the opening of missionary work in Equatorial Guinea, it being the only Spanish-speaking African country. Conditions are not favorable now, but in Spain I taught many Guineans on study abroad or work training who were interested in the church but unwilling to join a church who's near branch was in Cameroon.

It sounds like there might be a new stake created from the Evansville Indiana Stake. http://www.courierpress.com/news/2010/oct/08/mormons-meet-this-weekend-elder-to-lead-state-on/

Question: What are the chances of the Church transitioning from City Nation to City State stake, district, temple, and mission names in Mexico, Brazil, and maybe Philippines and Peru? I understand it would be time consuming to rename all of those.

I do not believe that any new stakes will be created in the foreseeable future in Indiana as most have an inadequate number of wards divide.

I have thought before about the possibility of countries with large numbers of members transitioning to the City State name system, but I do not think that this will happen. Countries which have multiple stakes or districts with the same city name have the province name listed after the country, such as in the Philippines.

I may have an opportunity to relocate with my family from California to Luanda to work for a few years. Is there someone I can talk to to learn more about the church there? It seems like there is exciting recent activity with the country being dedicated for missionary work and potentially a new district being created.
