District Discontinued in Argentina

A district was recently discontinued in Argentina.

The Reconquista Argentina District was consolidated with the neighboring Goya Argentina District to organize the new Rio Paraná Argentina District.  Organized in 1992, the Reconquista Argentina District had three branches.  The newly realigned Rio Paraná Argentina District now has six branches.  This move was likely done to help prepare the area for the creation of a stake sometime within the foreseeable future.

There are now 72 stakes and 34 districts in Argentina.

It was announced last Sunday, starting in January, Utah will get its first "Midsingles" Stake... similar to a YSA Stake, made up of entirely Midsingles Wards (Single Adults.ages.31-45).

There are 15 mid-singles SA wards/branches. Four are in California:

East Bay Ward (Single Adult), Oakland California Stake
Heritage Park Ward (Single Adult), Irvine California Stake
Pacific Beach Ward (Single Adult), San Diego California North Stake
Glendale 9th Branch (Single Adult), La Crescenta California Stake

Two are on the East Coast:

Charles River Ward (Single Adult), Cambridge Massachusetts Stake
Potomac Ward (Single Adult), Mount Vernon Virginia Stake

Four are in Southern Utah:

Bloomington Hills 7th Ward (Single Adult), St George Utah Bloomington Hills Stake
Cedar City SA Ward, Cedar City Utah West Stake
Sunset 12th Ward (Single Adult), St George Utah Sunset Stake
Washington Parkway Ward (Single Adult), Washington Utah East Stake

One is in Provo:

Oak Hills 8th Ward (Single Adult), Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake

Three are in Salt Lake County:

Monument Park 19th Ward (Single Adult), Salt Lake Parleys Stake
Parleys 7th Ward (Single Adult), Salt Lake Monument Park Stake
Union Fort 9th Branch (Single Adult), Midvale Utah Union Fort Stake

One is in Logan:
Logan 18th Ward (Single Adult), Logan Utah South Stake

If SA stakes are coming, than more SA wards are likely to be coming. The 3 wards and 1 branch between Salt Lake and Provo are a candidate for a stake, but so the 3 wards around St. George and 1 in Cedar City.

Given that in the stakes covered by the Washington DC South Mission (in Northern Virginia), there are 5 YSA and 1 SA ward, I have wondered if a singles stakes might eventually be formed in northern Virginia, perhaps with some YSA wards across the Potomac in Maryland. I was wondering if an SA ward would go into a YSA stake. Currently, 2 YSA and 1 SA ward meet in the same building in Crystal City (Arlington) near Reagan National Airport.

The Lomé Togo District, Benin Cotonou Mission has 12 branches now in about a 10 km by 10 km area. Some of these divisions probably aren't because of distance to church, but probably because congregations have been getting large.

They may be waiting on full tithe paying Melchizedek Priesthood holders to become a stake. But, I would think a stake could be coming soon.

Mike, I know that one SA ward will be created in Ogden and I heard rumors that another one will be in Farmington early next year. As someone who used to drive two hours to the Stake Center back home in Germany, I think organizing and maintaining a stake that stretches from Ogden to Provo is definitely possible. I wouldn't rule this out, not even short-term...although such a stake would probably cross Area boundaries.

I didn't rule out a Wasatch Front SA stake. I think the idea is intriguing and I did point that the 3 Salt Lake County and 1 Provo congregations could be expanded into a stake if more SA wards are coming. Your point about a stake crossing area lines puts a bit of roadblock on the idea, but probably not insurmountable. I also wouldn't rule out the Logan SA ward being part of the stake, a stretch perhaps, but certainly possible.

I also suggested that a southern Utah SA stake is possible. Cedar City is about as far from St. George as Provo is from Salt Lake City, but this possibility doesn't have a cross area issue (unless an SA ward in Las Vegas is created and included).

That there are 3 SA wards in the St. George-Washington-Hurricane area surprised me. St. George is a retirement mecca for older people, but singles 30 to 45--that surprised me.
