New International District Created in China

The Church recently organized the second district in China, the Shanghai China International (English) District. I made a recent post about the Church and China, and please refer back to that post for more information. Something else I wanted to add is that there are around 40 million Christians in China, but no Chinese citizens attend the branch services in China; only foreigners do.

How many members are in this district?

The Church does not release membership numbers for countries in which it is not recognized by the government. The number of members living in countries in Asia where the Church does not publish membership is around 15,500. You many ask how I know this but not how many members there are in the new district created in China last year for foreigners. If you add all of the membership totals for the countries in Asia which the Church publishes and subtract that number by the number of members in Asia, that is the number you get. Nearly all of these members likely live in China and Pakistan with a few members in Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, and Vietnam.

I appreciated your comments Andrew about the Church in China. I decided to remove them because I consider this information to be a bit too sensitive to be posted on my blog and it seems clear that the Church does not wish it to be made public...yet (otherwise it would be published online by the Church). I have been aware of these branches and districts in China and am excited to see the work of the Lord go forth. The Church is being very careful to not violate any Chinese laws and maintain a good relationship with the government so that the Church can someday make its presence manifest and perform missionary activities.
