That is awesome. It has been on my mind lately that the impact of the virus on conference will be a great blessing. I have thought that the there would be an increase in broadcast across the world allowing more of our active, less active and nonmember brothers and sisters access to the important and wonderful messages from our general authorities. I have heard in the past that some of the highest trending tweets on Twitter and some Facebook posts have been about talks duringbl conference. with more people watching from home I anticipate those numbers to increase. The article above stated that the broadcast in Nigeria alone may bring access to over 100 million people. I think this will be an amazing missionary tool with all the ways conference will be broadcast around the world.
Eduardo, if you place the unit # or name in search bar and then select temple link in list on the left it will show you the officially assigned temple for that stake in Classic Maps.
Hey @Chris, your lists are inaccurate. What you did to find each stake's assigned temple only told you the nearest temple (in distance, as the crow flies) from within the church boundaries. For example my stake, Long Beach California East, is currently assigned to the Los Angeles Temple. Your list has my stake assigned to the Newport Beach California Temple. Yes, the Newport temple is about 4 miles closer in distance to most members of my stake than LA. But this does not mean we are assigned to the district.
I consulted CDOL for confirmation that we were part of LA district. Finally, I contacted the LA temple president to ask and see if us being in Newport district was accurate, and he said it was not. I commend you for taking the time to look all of this up, but some of the info is wrong. Maybe we can use this to see if/when the church will change temple district boundaries in the future. 99% of Rick's lists are still correct.
Luke, Chris and I have exchanged back-and-forth comments in the past about how there are some inaccuracies in the LDS maps listings for temple districts vs. what is actually the case. While I can't say for sure that this is the reason, I'd imagine that the actual composition of each temple district is manually determined by the Brethren, and then fed into the "Maps" page with code that may automate the best approximate accurate answer, even if it is not the actual accurate answer based on information formally released about temples. In that respect, the Church of Jesus Christ Temples site seems to have the clear edge on accuracy relating to those questions.
Of course, with all the temples that are now or soon will be under construction, we are looking at a completely different composition for temple districts within the next 3 years and beyond for the foreseeable future.
@Keaton, and for any other interested, for recreational purposes only, I have here links to my Temple Districts Maps (in .kml format, Google Earth only). I have compiled using as a guide both Matt's Potential Future Temples map as a template, and Rick's Church Units .kml download file. Using Rick's temples website Districts lists as a guide. I also took the liberty of expanding from Rick's current 168 dedicated temples to also include approximate locations within the announced cities and temples under construction, and educated guess of which Stakes/Districts to be assigned to each new temple. With road/air routes to each.

@Luke, you have the free agency to believe, or not that the posted public record from Classic Maps is what the Brethren have assigned. We all live in a free world to believe according to our own will. These maps i have created for current and future temple districts and road routes is purely my opinion. You can review and come to your own conclusion. Thank you for your input and opinions. Even though the brethren may have assigned you to the Newport Beach ( a little closer), you have the freedom and choice to attend the also close LA temple.
Unlike you, 99% of us bloggers or commentators here are not either Ward/Stake Clerks, nor Ward bishops/ Stake Presidents who have direct access to the CDOL list. And we can only use other public domain records to come to conclusions about the actual status and locations of each Church unit.
The newly called General Young Men Presidency includes an African American. There never has been an African American general officer of the Church before.
Mozambique has 4 stakes

ReplyDeleteIs there a way on classic maps to see the boundaries of the temple districts?

ReplyDeleteVery cool! Several radio stations and television channels in several West Africa countries will air General Conference this weekend.

DeleteI've seen posts on Facebook about the same thing in Mexico in regards to public stations airing conference. Not sure if that is new or not.
ReplyDeleteDo all those Argentine stakes really fall under the Concepcion Chile Temple? I would guess Buenos Aires makes more sense.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris, very helpful! I wish there were a map showing these boundaries
ReplyDeleteThe temple feature of Rick's old site used to be pretty good for showing temple coverage. I guess that was wiped out a couple years ago?
ReplyDeleteEduardo, if you place the unit # or name in search bar and then select temple link in list on the left it will show you the officially assigned temple for that stake in Classic Maps.
ReplyDeleteCDOL also lists them when you search for a temple and look at details.

ReplyDeleteBahia Blanca Temple should hekp out some of those southern Argentine stakes, but I argue that Trelew and Punta Arenas, Chile, still need their own...
