District Created in Honduras

A new district was created earlier this month in Honduras. The Monjarás Honduras District was created from a mission branch and at least three branches from the San Lorenzo Honduras District. The district based in San Lorenzo was one of the largest in the Church with 14 branches in 2009. The Monjarás Honduras District becomes the first new district or stake to be organized in Honduras in about 12 years. Last year, several districts were consolidated or had their branches become mission branches. The creation of the new district may indicate greater self-sustainability with local leadership in southern Honduras. There are now 20 stakes and six districts in the country.

Was the Sicilian stake created today?

Yes, according to missionary reports from last week the new stake was scheduled to be organized in Palermo last Sunday. I will provide more details once they become available.

Cumorah International LDS Resources is considering a symposium on LDS church growth. Se here what they are thinking:
-----------------------
It would be a symposium on scholarly study of mission-related issues. Speakers would include university professors, sociologists, others with expertise in the international church, and possibly returned mission presidents. Topics could include themes such as convert retention, outreach to Muslims, ethnic and cultural issues in missions, member-missionary work, and so forth. Like FAIR or the Mormon History Association meetings, it would present a variety of perspectives and would not be formally church sponsored. We are trying to determine as to whether there may be enough interest to warrant organizing such a symposium.

Yeah, I have been pretty busy. I also haven't had much to report on lately.

Two new branches were created in Kuching, Malaysia two Sundays ago by the way. Another exciting development is that there is a mission branch for the India New Delhi Mission. Apparently some members may be meeting in groups for the first time in far eastern India, but I do not have any confirmation yet.

A mission branch was also created for the new mission in Lubumbashi. And two new branches were recently organized in western Paraguay, one of which in the city of Filadelfia which was one of the cities in the country with the most people without a congregation.

According to lds.org temple districts, Palermo Italy is still a district (as of July 5). Those pages usually change almost immediately.
