ReplyDeleteHard to argue against any of these. All great choice. But if I were replace a few of them, they would be:
ReplyDeleteTacoma, Washington
Henderson, Nevada
Santiago, Dominican Republic
Osorno, Chile
Kampala, Uganda
I am predicting temples in the following places in lieu of the 5 above:
1. El Paso, TX
2. Madison or Milwaukee (Waukesha), WI

4. Jacksonville, FL (yes, I am still a believer, even with Tallahassee)
5. Lehi, Utah

ReplyDeleteElder Rasband Encourages Saints in Asia To 'Stand in Holy Places'
Apostle travels to India and Singapore
"Elder Rasband was joined by his wife, Melanie, for in-person meetings with Church members and missionaries in New Delhi, India and Singapore. Virtual meetings were held with Latter-day Saints in other parts of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Taichung and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. "

Could the high ranking visit to "New Delhi India" be significant to this weekend Conference? Maybe a announcement for a long shot "New Delhi India Temple" to serve saints in both the India New Delhi and Pakistan Service Missions?
Any thoughts?
Thank you for posting this list! Assuming our predictions are on par with previous conferences it looks like we can expect 4 of the top ten to be correct
ReplyDeleteRecently organized in the Seoul Korea South Stake is the new "Seoul YSA Branch - 2184087".

Sometime in the last 6 months the "Port Elizabeth South Africa Stake - 472174" has been renamed "Gqeberha South Africa Stake - 472174".

I don't know if a temple in India would ever service Pakistan. The two countries hate each other. I've heard it's as bad as USA/USSR relations during the Cold War. But I don't know firsthand.
ReplyDelete@christopher Nicholson yeah those two countries hate each others guts. Pakistan would not go to the temple in Bengaluru when finished; they'll probably be assigned to Dubai.
ReplyDeletePlease Kampala!
ReplyDeleteSoooo... Where's those 2021 Church Statistics?
ReplyDeleteThey were released directly following the Saturday Afternoon Session, of course:
ReplyDeletehttps://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/2021-statistical-report-april-2022-conference
Interestingly enough, the Statistical Report incorrectly notes that no temples were rededicated in 2021, when, as we know, the Mesa Arizona Temple was rededicated on December 12 by President Oaks:

I've submitted feedback on that apparent oversight to the Church.
They fixed it already. 🤔👍
DeleteI really do not see Henderson, Nevada as likely. The pure size of the Las Vegas Temple makes me think that is not a top priority period.
ReplyDeleteFlagstaff, Arizonamight take Kingman and Lake Havasu City stakes from Las Vegas.
If Clark County gets a 2nd temple, it will almost certainly be somewhere west of I-15. A Henderson Temple would make sense down the road, but only if we come to a point where we will have 6 stakes support an 80,000 square foot Temple, or when there are about 4 times as many stakes east of I-15 in the Las Vegas Valley.
Other than that I can see anything on this list. Except I remain skeptical that Mongolia will have a temple announced.
I know on paper it looks like Kiribati, Papua New Guinea and Cambodia, and so I could be wrong, but I just do not see it yet for Mongolia.
I am quite excited about the new general authorities and general officers of the Church. 1/3rd of those newly called are black and only 1 of the 3 newly called sisters is white. That sister, Annette Dennis is married to Jorge Dennis, a native of Ciudad Obregon, so her last name is functionally Hispanic. Sister Dennis is a native of Provo, Utah.
Sister Browning is the most interesting. She is the first black woman to be a general officer of the Church. Brother Corbett of the Sunday School General presidency wad the first black general officer.
Sister Browning is possibly the youngest current general officer. She us about 17 years younger than brother Corbett. She was born within a few months of when Sister Porter got married.
Some of my analysis may seem off because half the sisters given callings were moved around, but I am focusing on new calling to those not currently serving as general officers.
Sister Johnson is the first general president of the relief society to be a lawyer in a top notch law firm.
Sister Browning used to be an employee of Morgan Stanley. She is now client services manager for the publication department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which I think means she does essentially what President Monson did before he became a mission president. Except I think the scale of operations is different so the job comparison is a little off.
Sister Browning is married and has 2 children. I was unable to really figure our more about her family. She is 44 or 45. I doubt her children are actually primary age, but it is possible.
Sister Browning is also the first Jamaican general leader of the Church. She was born in New Rochelle, New York. However she was mainly raised in Jamaica where her parents were from. She joined The Church in 1993 at age 16. I am not sure where, but it was too soon to have been under Elder Rasband's time as mission president in New York.
I partly say that because Sister Browning does bring to mind another church member of Caribbean descent with New York metro connections whose baptism did fall under Elder Rasband's mission presidency, Mia Love. Sister Love is 1-2 years older than Sister Browning, but was baptized at around 20 or 21, which is not that much more than 16, but still puts us a few years later.
Also interestingly, Sister Broening seems to have never before held a calling in primary. She has been on the relief society general advisory council since Sep. 2018, and before that she served as a member of a stake relief society presidency, a member of a ward relief society presidency, a Mua Maid advisor (that is from the 2018 write up, so it was her position and such still existed when they wrote it up), a relief society teacher and "in other callings in relief society and young women."
There have been members of the Sunday School General presidency who had never served in Sunday school, so we can question if you need experience in an organization to lead it.
Elder Morrison is the first general authority from Ghana. He is originally from Takarodi and currently mission president in Cape Coast.
Elder Silva from Brazil was previously mission president in Angola.
Interesting nonexof the top 10 and only 1 of the top 20 were announced. Frederick's supplemental list did not fair well either. Although oddly enough Tampa makes me have higher hope for Jacksonville than I did before, and Missoula a year after Helena tells me no temple announcement blocks any other announcement.
ReplyDeleteACtually, this list is for the October 2022 predictions. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou just have to replace Austin. I do not think anywhere else becomes less likely. Charlotte is still in play after Knoxville for example.

ReplyDeleteJPL, the way temples are being placed to not preclude future temples in reasonably close locations indicates to me that there is a master plan to build temples in the other reasonably close location in due time. Otherwise they would pick a central location like they used to.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it seems the real estate arm of the church provides info to the temple department as to where residential growth is expected.
What do you think?
