Matt, thanks for all you do to keep this site active and relevant. I always check it first thing every day to see what is new in the worldwide Church, and I always enjoy the new material as it arrives. Keep up the great work! Reed
In a side presentation at Rootstech, but this is before it all crashed, they reported on an aspect of family history work, and that had to do with the My Family booklet.
They simply had everyone fill it out, for later input into Family Tree. Those were waiting for a better Internet connection, which could come via Starlink as earl as next year. The filled booklets are in that stake family history center waiting for that whatever better connection to be input when they get one.
But I also heard a report on names found and added to Family Tree. The running average through Fabruary was about 6.9 million names a month. In May, that figure jumped to just over 10 million names a month for that month and that is the first time they had that number. I may have other updates in anywhere from two days to several weeks.
I have heard other things too, so while some facets of the Church are down, some are growing at a substantial rate and some if it is seldom reported on although they are happening.
This is more true of Sao Tome than Angola or Mozambique. Those countries have large numbers of people who speak only other languages. Sao Tome is close to completely Portugese speaking. It was uninhabited before the Portuguese began huge sugar plantations there.
On August 1st, the new Africa Central Area - 2151480, was organized from the Africa Southeast Area (renamed Africa South).

Well since the other Portuguese areas are in the South Area this makes sense. Also Cabinda is an outlier.

I wonder about wifi and ability of members to do their church work virtually in Africa? How does it compare to the United States?

DeleteGood to know about the increase in family history submissions. You actually reminded me to go and research some records myself.
Sao Tomé belongs to Luanda Angola Mission, which is part of the Africa South Area. It makes sense because Sao Tomé like Angola (and Mozambique further east) are Portuguese speaking.

DeleteLast I knew there was a branch in Beirut. Are they okay?
