  3. Matt, with just 2 months remaining until the October 2020 General Conference sessions. Is it too early to start reviewing/updating the "Potential New Temples" list? Both more or less likely sites to be announced during Conference weekend? To begin conversations within the contributing Blog followers of Best 10 choices likely to be announced, etc? I know some like to create a "Temple Matrix" chart.

Thank you for all your hard work in informing us of upcoming trends and Statistics in Church growth!

  4. I am reading the book "The Discourses of Gordon B. Hinckley" At the start of April 1997 general conference he announced two new temples, and named and explained the status of all 15 other temples then in progress.

  5. @Chris

Thanks for posting the Potential Temples Map. I think I'm going to do something new this go-round and have a separate predictions list based solely on distance from nearest temple(s).

  6. @Chris: Let me add my thanks here. While I don't know how soon Matt might put something up here in terms of his thoughts about temples for October (probably next month sometime, given his past trends), I am personally hard at work on fine-tuning my own list of temple locations. Given the First Presidency's announcement about the October 2020 General Conference, which "will follow the same pattern as the conference held in April", I wound up having to overhaul my previously-offered predictions. I hope to have those revisions published on my blog within the next two weeks or less.

In the interim, when your document notes "Charlotte South Carolina", did you mean "Charlotte North Carolina"? Insofar as I am aware, there is only one Charlotte in a Carolina state, and that is in North Carolina. SImilarly, unless there is a "Bakersville" in California, I think you may have meant "Bakersfield." I'd be curious to learn what led you to prioritize each temple in each section the way you did. Thanks, Chris, for all the hard work.

  8. @James: To clarify the link to the Potential Temples google maps website, was a work done by none other than Matt Martinich in the last several conferences. Each conference he updates with new predictions after adding the announcements for that round. Yes, I was aware of his error in the North/South Carolina states name for Charlotte. And also that the stake near Los Angeles is in Bakersfield, CA, another mistype. But since I am not the owner nor participant in the making of the map, I have no editing powers of the same. I also want to clarify. Several of the recently Dedicated Temples, need moved up the list in the position listed alphabetically. Others of the under construction/announced need their names updated/corrected also.

Thank you for responding and giving your expected publication timeframe for your own list.

  9. Update on the recently organized Ethiopia Addis Ababa Mission :

    https://classic.churchofjesuschrist.org/maps/#ll=10.793141,40.49306&z=5&m=google.hybrid&layers=stakecenter,mission,area&q=Ethiopia%20Addis%20Ababa%20Mission&find=mission:2141957

According to the Classic Maps site Mission Boundaries, it now includes the 3 East African countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti. The latter 2 were previously assigned only to the Africa Southeast and then Africa Central Area. This could mean we now have the ok to send full time missionaries to these new countries?

Also it is unclear if the Djibouti Branch will remain under the Area leadership or be transferred to the Mission Presidency.

  10. Hey, Chris! It's been a busy time for temple announcements. Following the rescheduling of the groundbreaking for the Salta Argentina Temple, two Utah temples had a groundbreaking announced:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/church-announces-groundbreakings-for-two-utah-temples

And, as Matt reported at 10:30 or so last night (a few hours prior to when I discovered the same, though I only read Matt's report a few minutes ago), two Pacific Area Temples had their renderings released:

    https://news-nz.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/renderings-released-for-new-pacific-temples

I apologize also that I didn't realize that the document you shared in your earlier comment was not put together by you. I've been slgihtly busy covering the wide variety of temple and Church news updates reported. I'm also still working as I can on the updated list of temples for my personal October 2020 General Conference predictions, including the list of the most likely locatiosn in which a temple could be announced. Hopefully I will have that published early next week. WHen President Nelson said things were going to move at an accelerated pace now, he wasn't kidding.

  11. Hey, just wanted to let you know about a new stake being created in Massachusetts. It was posted on the Nashua New Hampshire Stake Facebook page. Here is a link https://www.facebook.com/NashuaStakeLatterDaySaints/. It looks like they are taking 5 stakes and creating a stake in Worcester, Massachusetts.
