Missing Country-by-Country Church Data

For many years, I have made numerous requests for the Church Newsroom website staff to publish country-by-country membership and congregational data for all countries with a non-sensitive Church presence. My requests continue to be ignored or redirected without follow through despite my persistent efforts. Moreover, I have credible information that the Statistical Department indeed releases this data to the Newsroom site, but that the site does not publish it for an unknown reason. Here are a list of countries that have been consistently not reported on the website that do not have a sensitive Church presence (i.e. congregational information is published on lds.org/maps):
  • Bahrain
  • Bermuda
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Cuba
  • Egypt
  • Gabon
  • Guinea
  • Kosovo
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Mali
  • Morocco
  • North Macedonia (FYROM)
  • Oman
  • Qatar
  • Senegal
  • Turks and Caicos Islands
  • Vietnam
I think that if additional requests are made, the Newsroom site would provide data for these countries as they would see a greater public interest in these data. Please complete the following feedback from the Newsroom site to assist my efforts to provide the public access to this information. The form can be found here: https://ldsrt.allegiancetech.com/cgi-bin/qwebcorporate.dll?idx=HRP7TU. Please copy and paste into your browser.

  1. Bermuda was reported in the old (-sigh-) Church Almanac. Last I saw circa 2013 was around 115 to 120 members, if I remember correctly.
Turks and Caicos ought to be reportable, too. Some of these places are understandable due to terrorist threats.
Recently learbes about the Maldives. Seems like a nearly impossible nation for missionary work.
Between heroin addiction and mandatory Islam...

  2. Does anyone know why the Manama Bahrain Stake is a Stake with only 1 branch (Manama Bahrain) and 1 ward (Kuwait) assigned? Or are the other assigned Wards considered sensitive units, and not listed on the Classic LDS Maps website?

    1. The rest is in Saudi Arabia which is super sensative.

  3. When the Bahrain stake was either formed or itself divided, they ran a big story in the Church News about it, and possibly when the first of the two mideast stakes was formed as well. Manama may only have one ward, as the stake and the other stake totalled 16 units spread out over multiple countries. The first Manama stake president was an ex-pat working for Ford, the stake's members were all ex-pats, same for the other stake.

  4. From what I understand, the one ward and branch in the Manama Bahrain Stake are the only ones the Church can report. I believe it was reported most of the stake membership resided in Saudi Arabia, which is a sensitive country, so they do not report on the numbers for Saudi Arabia.

  5. Opinion- I'd say these countries don't have statistics included because its not needed as these would all be countries with expat church members and probably there is no growth outside the expat circles. I mean is proselytizing legally allowed in half of these nations?

  6. Egypt at times members have been as often Sudanes ed refugees as expats. Gabon my brother-in-laws sistwr and her family live there. Last summer they were close to an additional branch. Bermuda, BVI have presence. So do Senegal and Mali. Vietnam has its own mission.

  7. When the first stake was formed in Canada it had less than 800 Church members.

  8. In terms of slower growth, I do wonder if local church dynamics keeps growth from increasing. Once an area grows to a critical mass and a local "church culture" develops, then members become complacent and feel in some ways the church is "big enough" in their area to see the vision to grow the church more.

Also local group dynamics may lead to unspoken rules and customs that can turn people off from joining the church.
