I wanted to correct an inaccurate post from last February regarding the assignment of full-time missionaries to Senegal. Church leaders confirmed that the first young, proselytizing missionaries were assigned to Senegal within the past week from the Cote d'Ivoire Abidjan Mission. Furthermore, the Dakar Branch was divided today to organize a second branch in Dakar called the Parcelles Branch which appears to meet in the Parcelles neighborhood of Dakar. Please refer to my previous post from last February regarding additional information about the Church in Senegal.
The Church also continues to experience progress in other West African countries where an LDS presence was recently established. As noted last February, the first convert baptisms occurred in February in Mali. Local members are optimistic that full-time missionaries from the Cote d'Ivoire Abidjan Mission will soon be assigned to serve in Mali within the near future pending government approval. I have not received any new information regarding the status of assigning full-time missionaries to Guinea where the first branch was organized last year. However, the Conakry Branch had 30 members at year-end 2017. Local members reported that there were 23 adults who attended church meetings at the time and that there were seven investigators.
Awesome growth
ReplyDeleteHey Matt-
ReplyDeleteIt appears some other sites that track church growth have been asked to remove data about unit growth specifically for some reason. Have you had any requests from the church in that regard?
I think TempleRick might have been asked to stop publishing new wards and branches because he pulled the data from CDOL, which is for leaders with specific callings--I had access when I was executive secretary to my bishop. TempleRick has done an awesome job and while his site is still wonderful, it now misses some things I have loved.
ReplyDeleteMatt, has created his own tools to collect data in other ways.
Matt, have you considering starting a FB group for everyone here in the comments? I'd love a private FB group where we could all discuss LDS Growth-related topics.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else, or is it just me? I'd be happy to help moderate. :)
There was a report on CDOL this morning that showed 2 new wards (Brazil and Ghana) and three discontinued wards in the US (Oregon, Washington, and Utah, in the Utah South Church Area).
ReplyDeleteI'm unable to identify these units by name, and there may have been name changes of wards, branches, Stakes, and districts which I don't see.
This is a far cry from the thorough and timely reporting of TempleRick, but at least it's some small bit of information.
Any progress in your units in establing new elders quorums. My ward did not have a new elders quorum president last Sunday so the 2nd counselor in the bishopric conducted the elders quorum meeting. High priests and elders largely sat in groups as such. Next Sunday I will consciously sit by a high priest.
ReplyDeleteBunko if you start a facebook group I might join. I have to admit I like my fiancee at times consider quitting facebook.
ReplyDeleteYes gathering infromation from CDOL is a pain. So i realy miss the reporting form TempleRick.
ReplyDeleteIn my ward we had high prist goup class and elders quorum as we used to have. We got informed that the changes will be implemented on the 22th of April.
John...Elders Quorum Presidency was released and then right after announced that they were the acting presidency until a new presidency was called. My ward has very few Elders that attend priesthood due to Young Men or Primary callings and inactivity. Our High Priests group is fairly large but I think we will mesh okay with the Elders. Around 20% of our High Priests are in the mid 30's to mid 40's.
ReplyDeleteNot in our ward. We had stake conference and our bishop was called as the new stake president, so it might be a while before we have a newly organized EQ
ReplyDeleteAlso, our stake president was in our ward to call a new bishop (our previous one is moving away in the couple months so I didn't expect him to be released yet), he said it will probably take a while to implement the switch over to ministering and to continue on as we have been while the stake presidency decides how to implement the change. As for the Elder's Quorum, I serve in Primary so I don't know what happened there.
ReplyDeleteI meant the next couple months.
ReplyDeleteIn my ward we were still in separate priesthood classes. The HP group was around 30 and the elders between 10 and 15. We hope to start in a merged class next week.
ReplyDeleteMy brother's ward where we were immediately released the two by the Stake Presidency and called an entirely new presidency. It seemed there was one counselor each from the former EQ and HP.
ReplyDeleteTo me not starting a joint elders quorum immediately and still having the high priest group is defying the directives given.
ReplyDeleteOn the issue of ministering we were told to keep our current assignments until told otherwise but the message clearly was to seek to implement the new spirit as best as we can.
My ward has combined the Melchezidek Priesthood Quorum and released the High Priest Group leadership. They did that the week after General Conference. The Bishop said the new Elders Quorum President had been called and the reorganization should happen next week. They haven't done anything on changes for home teaching to ministering except the name and saying just make contact anyway you can (which the seventies and q12 I have heard speak in stake and regional conferences have been saying for several years in the Salt Lake area. Seems almost foreign in Brigham City where's I live now.) I heard that another ward in the area has done away with any assignments for visits, which doesn't seem to fit my understanding of the announcement.
