Missionaries serving in the West Indies Mission report that in July 2015 the Church will realign the West Indies Mission and the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission to create the Barbados Bridgetown Mission. The new mission will include the following countries/overseas departments: Anguilla, Barbados, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The West Indies Mission will be renamed the Trinidad Port of Spain Mission and the realigned mission will include Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it earlier than usual for such reports to begin? Maybe there will be many new missions.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news, whether there will be 1 or 100 new missions!
ReplyDeleteBarbados is a beautiful island and hopefully grows accordingly with a bigger missionary presence. English is strong there; parts of this new mission will require a bit of travel. Great stuff. I went there once in the 1980s and would love to go back. Maybe as a retired couple?
ReplyDeleteLooks like Alicia Philippines finally got upgraded to a stake. LDS Temples doesn't have up just yet which branches became wards.
ReplyDeleteMany of the islands in the forthcoming Barbados Bridgetown Mission were in the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission in the early 1980s when I was serving in that mission.
ReplyDeleteMy brother who is serving in the Peru chiclayo mission is also reporting that parts of his mission will become a part of a newly organized mission in July called the Peru Trujillo north mission
ReplyDeleteMy son was just called to the Barbados Bridgetown Mission.
ReplyDeleteMy son too was just called to this mission
ReplyDeleteMy son just opened his call to the Barbados Bridgetown Mission!! Exciting!
ReplyDeleteI served in Barbados during 1993-1994, back when it was in the West Indies Mission. We had 9 full time Elders and 4 senior couples on the island at the time. Prior to my time there had been a period when there were two to three times the number of full time Elders. The government cracked down on the number of missionaries, though, and the progress slowed down.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many full time missionaries are serving in Barbados now.
I served in the West Indies Mission from 1995-1997, specifically Barbados was my first country....all I can say for time and space, what a wonderful place, the people, the food, the culture and the music. I miss it very much.
