Five New YSA Stakes to be Created in Arizona

Members report that during the weekend of June 9th-10th the Church will create five new YSA stakes in the Phoenix metropolitan area.  Currently the Church operates one student university stake in Temple which will also be reorganized as a YSA stake.  The creation of the new stakes is a continuation of the recent trend to organize stakes for YSA units in locations with large LDS populations.  Within the past couple years the Church has created or reorganized university stakes into YSA stakes in many locations in Utah, Idaho, Hawaii, Virginia, and now Arizona.  Many other major cities appear likely to have YSA stakes organized in the coming months and years, including Los Angeles, California; San Francisco/Oakland, California; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; and New York, New York.

I will provide more details on the new stakes once they become available.

  3. Today was anounce that the Guadalajara Victoria & Guadalajara Stakes will be consolidated in a new stake, Guadalajara Bugambilias. Also the Guadalajara Lomas stake was discontinuated, and a new district was created in Chapala area. Guadalajara metropolitan area now has 6 stakes. The change make more strength for the consolidated stakes.

  4. In a recent pacific area training broadcast the area president indicated that they plan to create up to 12 new stakes this year in the pacific area. With the creation of stakes in Samoa tonga and new caledonia so far we can expect 9 further stakes to come. I would expect new stakes in Sydney Australia and Auckland new Zealand and I believe they are looking to create a new stake at the gold coast Australia.

  7. In Hawaii, the conversion of student single stakes into YSA stakes is still pending, though the BYU-Hawaii 2nd Stake (Student Married) has already been redesignated as the Laie Hawaii Married Student Stake.

  9. Saturday's Church News mentioned the creation of a Gilbert Arizona Highland East Stake, and a couple of others.

  10. When the Gilbert Arizona Highland West Stake was created, the Gilbert Arizona Highland Stake was renamed the Gilbert Arizona Highland East Stake.

The creation of the Pocatello Idaho YSA 1st Stake from the Pocatello Idaho University 1st Stake was incorrectly reported. The Pocatello Idaho University 1st Stake was renamed the Pocatello Idaho YSA 1st Stake in April 2011. A few weeks ago the stake presidency was simply reorganized.

  11. I take the most recent Church News as an attempt to identify the name changes in stakes. The wording makes sense if you consider Pocatello Idaho Student 1st and Gilbert Arizona Highland to have been discontinued.

  12. That's right, the Church News isn't always consistent when it comes to stake renamings. Sometimes they correctly indicate them, sometimes they assume "new name, new stake".

  13. This is awesome news, and a good trend for the YSA to be organized into stakes such as this. It promotes fellowship, growth, and greater activation.
