I have not yet provided a list of countries with the largest congregation increases for 2008. The 2007 list can be found
here. Congregations increased by 120 outside the United States and 282 worldwide. Below is a list of countries which had an increase of five or more congregations. The United States has been omitted.
- Brazil + 53
- Mexico + 15
- Peru + 12
- South Africa + 11
- Honduras + 6
- Ghana + 6
- El Salvador + 5
- Democratic Republic of the Congo + 5
81% of the total
non-United States increase in congregations can be attributed to the top five countries. Official congregation totals for 2009 will not be available until April.
These are preliminary numbers for congregational growth for 2009:
ReplyDeleteTotal increase world-wide 236

Several nations lost from 1 to 3 units, with Honduras, 220, - 6, having lost the most. Canada at 483 is unchanged.
I missed the Democratic Republic of Congo 1t 79, up 9.
ReplyDeletePrevious post should be"...Democratic Republic of Congo at 79, up 7."
ReplyDeleteThe fastest growing areas outside North America are Africa with 95 more congregations, and South America, with 65 more than 2008.
N.B. My apologies! I failed to take into account branches existing or created in nations where the Church does no reporting. The correct increase of congregations world-wide is not 236 but near 300 or above.
