According to the Czech Prague Mission website, the city of Banská Bystrica has recently opened to missionary work. With 81,300 inhabitants, Banská Bystrica sits in the center of the country. I do not believe a branch has been established, but this continues a trend of cities opening in Slovakia. I cannot recall an instance in the past 10 years where so many cities were opened in a country with so few members (less than 200 at the end of 2006). This is likely the result of the recent registration of the Church in Slovakia.
Last week I had the privilege of attending church in Banska Bysterica, Slovakia. It is a dependent group - with 6 members, a set of missionaries, and a missionary couple. The missionaries said that with the recent surge in missionaries coming into the mission, that a new group was formed in the city of Zvolen, about 20 miles south of Banska Bysterica. A set of missionaries has been assigned to live/labor in Zvolen, and that group also now has 5 members within Zvolen. Both of these groups are under the branch of Zilina, which is about 40 miles north of Banska Bysterica. The missionaries said that the mission has a goal of 100 baptisms for 2013 and that they are on target to reach that goal.
