The Church has never operated an official presence in Turkmenistan although a small group for American military personnel has historically functioned in the country. Turkmenistan was assigned to a full-time mission in 2015 when the Central Eurasian Mission was organized. Extremely few Turkmen have joined the Church abroad although there has been at least one Turkmen returned missionary. Severe government restrictions on religious freedom pose significant challenges for a Church establishment one day.
