Updated Country Profile - Somalia

Click here to access the updated Reaching the Nations country profile for Somalia. The Church previously operated a branch in Somalia in the 1980s that primarily serviced foreign aid workers. However, small numbers of Somalis have joined the Church over the past several decades even though the population of Somalia is more than 99% Muslim. There is no LDS presence in Somalia today.

  1. I know there are large numbers of Somalis in the Minnesapolis/St. Paul area. There may be potential for mission outreach in those areas. Although the strong ethno-religious connections to Islam makes this seem unlikely in the short term.

  2. There is Somalia proper and Puntland and Somaliland, which realistic terms are three different countries, although it appears all 3 share similar LDS profiles. Separate since probably at least the early 1990s.

  3. How/where do you find the updated information for stakes, districts, wards, and branches?
(e.g. Fake Sayau Stake: Hoppau Ward created)
I would love to help contribute!

  4. @Jarom -- thanks for your interest in helping contribute. Without full CDOL access, we are limited to the hunt and peck method on LDS Maps (maps.lds.org). If you keep a record of all church units for a given area, you can check the basic CDOL (cdol.lds.org) on a daily basis to identify changes in the total number of units, then compare LDS Maps (and Classic LDS Maps) against your records. It is tedious, yes, but also interesting and fun to research. Hopefully the Church will increase the availability of this data in the near future. Good luck!

  6. @Jarom, As stated in one of my previous posts here, for the last year or so, i have been updating the Wikipedia "List of L.D.S. Stakes" listed by Country, Region, State or Province, including all present and past Stakes, to date...with their corresponding link to the Classic L.D.S. Maps link to each current stake center known. You can copy that list with all the links associated and start from there to compare changes in the Maps site to current lists. Also are the 2010 Deseret News Church almanac country profiles links.

The Wikipedia site address is :

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stakes_of_The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints

P.S. I haven't included the current list of 540 Districts links. That would be a different page.
