That YSA stake in Phoenix covers a large area. From the 17 to west of the 303 and Grand Avenue interchange. That's close to 20 miles from east to west, not sure on north to south. Includes the new temple in its boundaries more than likely.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks the Reading PA stake will be split. They've created a new ward and transferred two wards from the Scranton stake, so now there are 10 wards and 6 branches. This is now double the Scranton stake

The Easton and Nazareth wards were showing up in the Scranton Pennsylvania Stake yesterday, but today they are showing up in the Reading Pennsylvania Stake.

Apparently it is in preparation for creating a Bethlehem Pennsylvania Stake in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks, Rick. The high counselor appears to have spoken this past Sunday at the same time two wards were moved into the stake. If 500 members were needed, the 2 wards just supplied them. If 500 members are still needed, then why transfer the wards now?
ReplyDeleteI think the new stake might be sooner than the blog suggests.
Our stake needs 500 members to split. I can think of three places where we can get a ward, 2 wards, or a ward and a branch. In the first two cases, the losing stake could easily retain what is required for a stake. So, I wonder if it won't happen any time soon.
The area for the Phoenix YSA Stake is about 15 miles north to south. But in reality most of the YSA's are in a 8 by 8 area centered around Northern Glendale, most of the rest are in Goodyear area near the area force base.

In my stake they have a YSA branch with the stake running 48 miles by 26 miles, and the branch also drawning some from the neighboring stake which would expand it to 60 or more miles one way, and almost that much the other. However, some of the outlying areas it is hard to get turn out. In the branch my girlfriend it is, more often the YSAs go to the YSA branch for activities than for Church on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteStill, I cannot consider the Phoenix YSA stake to cover a large area, when we have YSA brnaches with much larger areas here in Michigan.
