  1. Matt, thanks for the newsletter with the island-nation membership study. It is very interesting and explains why the growth rates are higher in island populations. It was in the British Isles where missionary work was so fruitful in the 1830s, shortly after missionaries were first sent out into the world. Cape Verde is just the latest example of impressive growth on an island nation with congregations up from 23 to 28 just since the beginning of this year.

  2. Do we know when the new mission boundaries will be announced? I know the Twin Falls mission will cover between Mountain Home and Burley/Declo areas on the south and then extend up to Salmon on the North.

  3. Thanks, Matt, for another very interesting newsletter.

I am still puzzled about what happened to the Rostov District in particular.

  5. It looks like the Paupa New Guinea Article is already in need of some revision with the creaton of the Papua New Guinea Lae mission.

An elder in my ward passed on to me from a friend in the Jamaica Kingston mission office that staffing there has gone from 60 to 180 missionaries in the last few months.

Also, I enjoy doing statistics is there any way I can help?

  7. Mike, I wonder if the Medicine Hat 4th Ward is just the result of the renaming of another ward near Medicine Hat that had a different name (can't go to it because I temporarily can't access the Cumorah.com site that shows stakes, districts, etc.). The CDOL isn't showing an additional ward for Alberta.

  8. Joseph, my advice is to go cdol.lds.org and make a record of the statistics shown there--numbers of Church Areas, temples, missions, stakes, districts, wards, and branches. Then follow the changes daily and keep a record of growth that way.

For membership information go to lds.org, then to newsroom, and finally to statistics. For prior years you can check information in the Deseret News Church Almanac or refer to prior postings by Matt which cover figures for many of the nations back to 2006.

You can also go to maps.lds.org and then to boundaries to show mission, ward, branch, stake and district boundaries. This will be very helpful when a new unit is created. Missions are almost always shown only on July 1, but other entities can show up anytime. I hope this is helpful.
