District Discontinued in Puerto Rico
The Fajardo Puerto Rico District was discontinued and its four branches were combined with the San Juan Puerto Rico Stake. Larger branches in the former Fajardo district may now become wards in the stake based in San Juan. In the early 2000s, there were four stakes and four districts in Puerto Rico. In 2006, two districts combined to create a fifth stake. There are now five stakes and one district on the island.

Hopefully this doesn't set the church back too much in Puerto Rico. I am really hoping to see a temple announced there sometime in the near future. Now there are only 5 stakes and 1 distict. Small temple districts exist throughout the world it just does not seem to happen often in Latin American countries.
I don't see this setting the church back. This way will lead to more maturity and probably wards, like Matt said, so they won't have to wait as long for, say, a split. I see Puerto Rico getting a temple long before any other island in the Caribbean, as soon as the temple in the Dominican Republic gets used more. It seems like the Church, in more established areas, likes more than 5 stakes (8-12 minimum, maybe?).
