Significant Growth in the Africa South Area

Recent statistics indicate that rapid growth is currently occurring in the Africa South Area. A recent video posted on YouTube by the Africa South Area Presidency disclosed a wide range of internal growth metrics that are not typically shared publicly, making the scope and level of transparency in this data release highly unusual for the Church. As with all internally reported Church data, these figures reflect operational metrics shared by area leadership and are not independently audited. The following statistics were shared as percentage increases from the third quarter of 2024 to the third quarter of 2025:

  • Sacrament Meeting Attendance: +21%
  • BYU-Pathway Enrollment: +41%
  • Ministering Interviews: +21%
  • Lessons with a Member Present: +24%
  • Convert Baptisms: +13%
  • New Converts Attending Sacrament (Year-to-Date): +26%
  • Seminary and Institute Enrollment: +32%
  • Missionaries Serving from the Africa South Area: +45%
  • Members Holding a Current Temple Recommend: +17%
  • Members Submitting Names for Temple Work: +22%

These are impressive numbers considering the Church reported approximately 202,000 members in the Africa South Area as of year-end 2024. Additional statistics were also shared in the video, including:

  • More than 20,000 converts baptized during 2025 (as of mid-November 2025)
  • Increasing numbers of applications received for full-time missionary service. Total number of applications received by year were reported as follows:
    • 2023: 940
    • 2024: 1,441
    • 2025: 1,277 (as of mid-November)

The video also noted that 12 new stakes are currently in application or submission process, including:

  • Antananarivo Madagascar (4th stake)
  • Luveve Zimbabwe Stake
  • Harare Zimbabwe (7th stake)
  • Gweru Zimbabwe Stake
  • Nampula Mozambique (2nd stake)
  • Maputo Mozambique (4th stake)
  • Harare Zimbabwe (8th stake)
  • Ndola Zambia Stake
  • Kadoma Zimbabwe Stake
  • Mbabane eSwatini Stake
  • Gqeberha South Africa Stake
  • Soweto South Africa Stake

Finally, the devotional video also reported that the first full-time missionaries have been assigned to the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe (population: 210,000). The first convert baptisms, the dedication of the country for missionary work by Elder Ronald A. Rasband, and the organization of a member group also recently occurred.

Analysis

These metrics are highly encouraging and unusual for several reasons. First, the Church has achieved rapid growth despite a membership base of approximately 200,000. Rarely does the Church achieve double-digit percentage growth in the twenty-first century for any metric once membership becomes this large. Second, growth appears to be well distributed across the area which stretches from Angola, Zambia, and Mozambique in the north, to South Africa in the south, and Madagascar, Reunion, and Mauritius to the east. New stakes are slated for organization in all countries with at least 10,000 members, and several districts are planned to become stakes (including the first in eSwatini and the second in Zambia). With the implementation of heightened standards for new stakes to be created outside of North America in 2024, the planned creation of these new stakes signals strong leadership development and member activity. Third, the number of missionaries serving from the Africa South Area is up nearly 50% in a single year time span. Unprecedented success in missionary workshops the area has organized to encourage young single adults to serve full-time missions has appeared to drive much of this growth. Returned missionaries are an invaluable resource for staffing leadership, and increasing numbers of local members serving full-time missions helps improve the self-sufficiency of missionary operations in the Africa South Area. Fourth, growth metrics tracking missionary, temple and family history work, member activity, and seminary and institute enrollment are all consistently higher by 13% or more during this 1-year period. High growth areas of the Church in terms of convert baptisms can often lag behind with some of these metrics, such as temple and family history work, considering the focus has historically been on baptizing new converts and expansion. Fifth, convert baptisms represent the smallest percentage increase among the metrics disclosed in the video (13% increase), yet other metrics, including sacrament meeting attendance (21%) and new converts attending sacrament meeting (26%), are significantly higher. Thus, member activity rates appear to be improving, as growth rates are higher for these measures of member activity than the total number of converts joining the Church, suggesting improved retention and post-baptism engagement. Whether these gains can be sustained over the long term—particularly in newer areas—remains an open empirical question that will be clarified in future reporting. Sixth, the Church in the Africa South Area reported an increase of 11.6% in membership between year-end 2023 and year-end 2024 - a comparatively slower growth rate than most of the metrics discussed (although this statistic only slightly overlaps with the statistics shared in the video). Seventh, the Church is not only building up long-established centers of strength in the area (i.e., Johannesburg, Harare), but is also expanding into areas where the Church has had little or no prior institutional presence, such as São Tomé and Príncipe and northern Mozambique where there is only one stake and no districts in the planned Mozambique Nampula Mission. Five new missions are planned for the area in 2026. Eighth, the Church also reported large numbers of new congregations organized in the area during 2025. According to my count in parentheses, the following countries have had an increase of at least one congregation during 2025: Zimbabwe (20), Mozambique (12), Botswana (6), Madagascar (6), Angola (5), Malawi (3), Lesotho (2), and Zambia (1).

This pattern of accelerated growth is not isolated to southern Africa. The Africa Central Area also had a major year for growth in 2025. For example, there were approximately 88 new congregations created in the Democratic Republic of the Congo alone (a 25% increase for the year), and the number of congregations in Kenya increased by 26 (a 34% increase). The Africa West Area also had a productive year in many countries. Other areas of the world also experienced accelerated growth in 2025 compared to recent years. Preliminary reports suggest the Church may have set a new all-time record for the number of convert baptisms in a single year in 2025 which is likely around 350,000-375,000. Official 2025 statistics will be released in April.

  3. Thanks for another great report, Matt! With the significant growth the Africa South Area has seen, I wonder how likely it is that we will see the Africa South Area split. I know you had mentioned the prospect of a future split of the Africa West Area, and I am still convinced that split will happen at some point, but it will be interesting to see what happens with the Africa South Area going forward.

On another note, the Newsroom recently shared this report of top leaders in the Asia North Area meeting with the president of the Republic of Palau. I hope that is a preliminary step to open the doors of Palau to the gospel.

Thanks again for this great report, Matt!

    1. Africa South is less than half the size and half the missions of Africa west. Consequently, I don't see Africa South as a prime candidate for an area to split.

Other than Nigeria splitting off of Africa West, and reconfiguring of US areas, the other likely division would be the larger countries of South America being their own area, and the remaining smaller countries outside the Caribbean (Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay) becoming one area (ie for name: South America Central).

As for Palau, I think it's more for public relations. It's part of the Guam stake. There's a branch and a FamilySearch Center there (use to be two on the meetinghouse locator site). Missionaries have been there since 1978.

  6. One of the points I forgot to make in this post is that a new development with the creation of new stakes in the Africa South Area has been creating new stakes at the same time new wards are created. As a result, it is difficult to predict which stakes will be divided, because many of these stakes currently do not have enough wards to split to create new stakes.

  7. Really enjoyed the post and analysis. Amazing to see the growth in the Africa South area which is becoming a power in the Church. Not for the sake of just being picky but more to show the remarkable growth in Beira but you’ve missed a Stake from the list - the Beira Chamba Stake. This would need to come from the Inhamízua Stake only created in 2024 and is reported as already approved for creation.

  9. A new ward was created recently in the Sioux Falls South Dakota Stake, giving the stake a whopping 17 units, 8 wards and 9 branches. The Rapid City South Dakota Stake has 14 units, 8 wards and 6 units. There are a couple branches in the state that belong to a North Dakota stake. One would expect the creation of a third stake would be imminent, but with Sioux Falls and Rapid City on opposite ends of the state, I'm not so sure.

  10. I dont think a new stake is imminent. The church discontinued the Pierre district in the middle of the state within the past few years. It’s probably a long ways out to create a Pierre Stake, largely relying on Branches getting big enough to become wards.

    1. I suspect the long term plan is to divide both the Sioux Falls and Rapid City stakes. Both now have eight wards; stakes do sometimes have just four wards, though a minimum of five is better. They both have many rural branches but given their isolation they are unlikely to be able to contribute much to stake leadership. This will be interesting to watch.

  13. Speaking of the growth of the Church in Central and Southern Africa, the Church News has shared the awe-inspiring success story resulting from member missionary work in the Democrtatic Republic of the Congo. The article appears to confirm what Matt said in this post about the growth of the Church in Central and Southern Africa, which, I'm sure, is also equally true of Western Africa.

It makes me wonder if we could see a higher concentration of new GA Seventies and area seventies from Africa this year, and what else might be ahead for the continent in this new year. My thanks once again to you all.

Roughly 60% of the world's population is in Asia, yet it has 7.5% of the Church's membership.

The Church Reports 1,316,373 members in Asia. 882,461 of those, or 67% of Asian members, are in the Philippines.

The Asia and Asia North Areas combined have roughly half the world's population. Yet it only has roughly 413,000 members.

The Eurasia and Middle East-North Africa Areas which also reach into Asia also has very low member concentrations both inside and outside of Asia. There are no stakes that reach into the Asian side of either area.

If you take out the Philippines, the rest of Asia has 58% of the world's population but has less than 2.5% of Church Membership. In comparison, excluding the Philippines, Asia has fewer members than Argentina or Arizona.

    1. Very doubtful of a split, even factoring in the nearby Thousand Oaks Stake, that's only 12 wards. This area is in my mission (California Ventura Mission - 2011-2013, when Bakersfield was part of the mission). I have only been to Newbury Park once, maybe twice for Zone Conference. Not sure about Thousand Oaks, but all of the stakes on the coastal side of the mission have seen at least one consolidation. Newbury Park used to have 2 wards in Agoura Hills (combined and renamed Oak Park).

Still very hopeful of a temple announced in Camarillo (partly due to bias), since I feel that is the most central location of the 5 stakes in that area, plus not too far for the 3 stakes further up the coast in the mission. There is space at the Camarillo stake center that has plenty of room for a small temple.

    1. Chris, I believe that in addition to the Bouansa Branch being the first in an unreached city, the Caia Branch (Caia, Mozambique), Ore Branch (Ore, Nigeria) and the Buíque Branch (Buíque, Pernambuco, Brazil) are all also the first branches in their respective cities. The Fuller Consideration site is pretty good, but it doesn't always correctly list the correct city associated with new wards/branches.

    2. Caleb, do you have any report or official record of the Kampala Uganda North split this last weekend? As of last night 1/26/26, it had not been updated in the CDOL nor the meetinghouse site yet. And searching the video recording on the Stake Facebook page, it doesn't even mention the Stake Conference announced, let alone the GA visit.

      https://maps.churchofjesuschrist.org/stakes/1123793

      https://www.facebook.com/groups/242364606309469

The Facebook page just shows a repost of a "Finding Christ" talk from same day January 25th. (About 3 minutes long). If you have any other source to confirm the new Stake? I know in some parts of the world it can take weeks or months to update the official church records for the official Ward or Stake Clerks. But often times it's posted on social media prior.

    3. Chris, I don't have any further confirmation, and I may have been wrong. I just assumed it was due to the recent upgrades/ward creations in the area, the fact the conference was presided by Elder Mutombo, and a Ugandan member posting on facebook that a new stake was loading. But I am increasingly thinking I was wrong.

      Delete
    4. Caleb, I for one, appreciate your clarification. I did not mean any disrespect to you or your above post about the possible New Stake in Uganda. I too thought it possible the change. And I too read the comment on the facebook page about a "Kampala 3rd" stake. I was also looking forward greatly for the good news. Considering 1 month into the new year we have a Net increase of Zero New Stakes. (+2 Opened -2 Closed).

      Stakes Opened
2 Jan 13, 2026 Hurricane Utah Sky Mountain Stake
3 Jan 14, 2026 Ngandajika Democratic Republic of Congo Kabanda Stake

      Stakes Closed
1 Jan 22, 2026 Salt Lake Granite Park Stake
2 Jan 22, 2026 South Salt Lake Stake

I was hoping at least 1 New one this last weekend would bring us a Net increase of at least 1 in 2026 to date. I honestly in my above comment did not mean to imply you were wrong. I truly apologize if i came across that way. Or if you felt you needed to explain yourself. Have a great week.

  54. This just in from the Church Temples site: the Utah Supreme Court has ruled that construction on the Heber Valley Utah Temple can proceed. According to the Church of Jesus Christ Temples site: "The Court has not yet issued a ruling in the lawsuit filed against Wasatch County for approving plans for the temple in November 2023, but the Church may proceed with construction at its own risk. The suing residents failed to identify the irreparable harm construction would cause, and the Church has promised to restore the site to its original condition if it loses the case."

So for now, construction is good to go. I don't know when or how soon the Utah Supreme Court will subsequently rule on the legality of the temple approval, but at least there is this ruling in the Church's favor for now. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. I'll bet that the people who complain about the temple don't even live in the area, much less the state. Before they probably couldn't point to Heber City on a map. But it's good they're getting some progress.

      Delete
    2. The plaintiffs were a group of citizens of Heber City complaining about the temple, which is on county property. But they are likely part of the national group that seeks to oppose temple anywhere in the United States.

      Delete
    3. @Bryansb1984 You lose your bet. Most of the people complaining live in the Red Ledges development right across the street. My mission president lives in that neighborhood. The people complaining moved to a bench where they could see the back of Timp across the valley. Now there will be a giant lit-up temple in that view. For us members that's great, for the non-members, not so fun.

I don't want to be tone policing here, but that comment of yours is super unchristian and shows a type of pride that maybe common online, but should not reflect how we talk as church members.

    4. I think an occupational hazard of living in Utah is having to accept that rural vistas near high growth areas are not going to endure unless the land is protected. Even then it could change. Here in St George a much-needed northern bypass has been pushed for in the middle of the protected desert tortoise habitat. Many wealthy residents own mansions abutting that reserve with glass walls open to a splendid vista. Now they may be looking at a four-lane highway. Not exactly a temple, but they've had a similar reaction to those opposing the temple in Heber City.

      Delete
    2. I suspect the consolidation is related to the general aging and often population decline that happens in much of rural America. I lived many years in Vermont, where three congregations have been merged in recent years due to this problem much more than people leaving the church. I am part of this problem myself, having left Vermont for Utah to seek greener pastures (NOT literally, of course).

  78. Mbandaka where the new district was formed in DR Congo will probably end up in the Kinshasa North Mission under President Banza, who was the first person baptized in DR Congo.

Mbandaka has just over 1 million people and is on the Congo River in Equateur Province. It was founded in 1883 by Henry Morgan Stanley and then called Equateuville. It is down the Congo River from Kisangani which I believe now has 2 districts. These are the only two places where there are districts in the northern third of so of DR Congo. Besides Lingala and French the other language spoken in Mbandaka is Mongo. In 1995 there were about 400,000 speakers of Mongo. With how much the population of DR Congo has increased in the last 30 years who knows what the current number is. I did find a website that suggested that there may be almost 4 million speakers of Mongo. President Banza has served as the head of translation of general conference into Lingala. I am hoping with him as mission president we may see a push for more translations even though I know it will need to go higher up. As far as I know only French, Swahili, Lingala and Luba have Book of Mormon translations of the major languages if DR Congo. Mongo and Kongo would seem 2 languages that getting such translations would help. There is a stake and at least 1 district in the Kongo speaking already and now a district in the Mongo speaking area. The policy that translations are to be done by faithful members who are native speakers makes the process difficult. However once you have such native speaking faithful members the policy allows working with them to developed them to the level of being translators.

In the above video it's mentioned "what happens next month". The Franklin TN Stake above has 9 Wards and 2 Branches currently, and the Bishop announced the organization of the 10 Ward, the Franklin 4th, in the coming weeks.

The Stake has a conference scheduled for next month, March 21st -22nd. I wonder if the split 5+1 twice during that conference. Just a thought.

  80. I could see the three Spring Hill Wards, and the Columbia, Lawrenceburg, and Linden Wards in the south of the Stake splitting. Even though Columbia may be more centric.

But that would leave only 4 wards and 2 branches for the remaining Franklin Stake. Including the Centerville Branch meets in the above Columbia meetinghouse. And the Franklin 1st Branch (Spanish) covers the whole Stake territory.

So it's hard to judge where a theoretical split could occur.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Look into the west I see Jackson in Tennessee. I’m not sure if this large town with one ward would be close to splitting, but I do see the Memphis stake that it is currently located in being able to withstand losing it to a Franklin stake splitting. I would eventually like to see Jackson with its own stake, but I feel like this could be a initial step to making this happen.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If Jackson goes, it will take the Trenton Branch with it.

A more likely scenario if Jackson is to be part of a new stake is the creation of the Arlington TN Stake.

Arlington Ward, Jackson Ward, Lakeland Ward, and Trenton Branch from Memphis North Stake.
Collierville 1st & 2nd wards and Holly Springs Branch from Memphis Stake.
Jonesboro Ward and Paragould Branch could go back to the Memphis North stake (they're closer to the Memphis North Stake Center).
This will make 3 stakes with 5 wards and additional branches. While there's been additional branches, there hasn't been any additional wards in the Memphis area for some time now. However, nothing's been dissolved either in the past 20 years or so.

Leaving all three Memphis stakes and the Searcy Stake with only 5 wards (plus other neighboring stakes having only 5 wards) is why I don't see a need for a stake split for the Memphis area in the near term.

    1. Good find Chris! It looks like all 5 stakes in the Price metro area have stake conference that date. Perhaps just a big conference for Price, but I agree that a consolidation seems likely. Only the Price Utah Stake has more than 6 wards. Helper Utah, Price Utah North, Wellington Utah, and Price YSA all have only 5 wards, and 2 branches between them. One of those branches is the Scofield Branch, which has a typical attendance of 10ish people I believe, though it can jump in tourist season. I drive through Wellington a lot, and have no idea how that town has a stake, with 4/5 wards in Wellington alone. It feels so small and abandoned. If a consolidation happens, I would imagine the loss of only 1 stake however.

      Delete
    2. Dissolving the YSA Stake would actually be very easy considering their boundaries.
      -
Price YSA 1st Ward covers the entirety of the Price Utah North Stake
Price YSA 2nd Ward covers the entirety of the Price Utah Stake
Price YSA 3rd Ward covers the entirety of the Helper Utah Stake
Price YSA 4th Ward covers the entirety of the Wellington Utah Stake
Price YSA 5th Ward covers the entirety of the Ferron, Castle Dale, and Huntington Utah Stakes and is the only YSA ward that does not meet in Price, instead meeting in Castle Dale. Would make a lot more sense if this ward specifically was renamed.
      -
Looking at this, it makes me wonder why a stake called the Price Utah North Stake almost exclusively covers areas southwest of Price and nothing north. It seems like the name should have been swapped with the Price Utah Stake.

    3. It could very well be a 5-stake regional conference, as those haven't happened for a while. But it also occurred to me to wonder whether, if it is a regional conference, the Church could potentially provide a localized update on the Price Utah Temple. We know what President Oaks said about temple announcements being localized during his prophetic tenure, but could that also apply to temple updates? If it is not a regional conference, and if a split doesn't happen, wouldn't such a regional conference be the ideal setting for the reveal of a location and/or a rendering?

Just a wild thought that occurred to me when I heard that 5 Price stakes were all having a conference the same day, especially since there was no other temple construction update announced this week. A split, reconfiguration, or consolidation(s) may be more likely, but it's just something that I'm curious about.

      Delete
    4. James, I have thought the same, but will have to see. Any updates on the temple and announcing the actual site for the temple couldn’t find a more appropriate venue nor time than in a regional conference that covers the stakes that would be involved. Hopefully that’s what will happen cause I would love to know where they’re gonna be building the temple in Price.

      Delete
    5. Price is the only announced temple in Utah in which the temple site has not been announced. While an announcement's a possibility, I don't think announcing the temple location will be the purpose.

I'm also interested on how temples are announced. We only have a single example so far.

      Delete
    6. Gary C. Williams, let's hope that's the case here. David McFadden, I understand your reasoning for what you noted, and it's true that we haven't been told that temple details will be given at regional conferences going forward. And you're also probably right that it's simply for the creation of another stake and/or unit expansion and/or realignment. But we haven't categorically been told that temple announcements will not occur at regional conferences.

So a regional conference would be, in my view, a good place to share details about the Price Utah Temple. I don't think that possibility can be dismissed out-of-hand. That being said, I acknowledge that we don't even know if this will indeed be a regional conference, so it could just be that several stakes in Price coincidentally have their stake conferences the same day.

As far as how temple announcements will be made going forward, while we do have only one example thus far, we have the words of President Oaks: "It has occurred to me for a long time that the best place to announce a temple is in that temple district. And the best person to announce it is the file leader in that area, which can be an Apostle on assignment to a stake conference or another meeting, or it can be the area president if there’s no Apostle in the district when a decision is made by the First Presidency to have a temple there."

And further, President Oaks stated: "It’s a pattern that we will follow as long as I have influence in determining those things. This does not change the pattern of decision-making or gathering facts and determining the agreeable timing and the need. And all those things will continue to be analyzed. But when it comes to making a decision from all those facts, the First Presidency will continue to make the decisions. But they’ll assign someone else to make the announcement in the place where the temple will be built."

With that in mind, it strikes me as more than just coincidence that multiple Price stakes have a stake conference at the same time. Could just be a realignment, but since President Oaks mentioned that such announcements would occur in "stake conferences or other meetings", that gives me hope. We already have one example of this, as Elder Andersen was sent to Mongolia with renderings of the announced temple to present at a stake conference. So if it happened once, it could potentially happen again. I will, as noted earlier in this comment, be posting something more related to temple announcements at the bottom of this thread.

And I appreciate the rest of you keeping tabs on what else is going on and reporting it here so far as church growth because I look at this every week several times, especially when I can’t fall asleep and when I see the growth and what’s being reported it helps me relax and get a good nights sleep so thank you to all of you as we watch the kingdom roll forth

  95. Below is the number of temple dedications by year for the last decade:
    2016 6
    2017 4
    2018 2
    2019 6
    2020 1
    2021 2
    2022 5
    2023 11
    2024 16
    2025 9

We have a total of 8 announced to be dedicated for the first half of the year. 9 others have a temple president and matron called. That means we may surpass the 16 dedicated in 2024.

Lets assume 16 temples on average are dedicated each year on average. Lets assume temple is announced every 6 months. It will take another 12 years at this rate to build them all. If we're waiting to be caught up, the slowdown in announcements will be around for quite some time.

On another note, I wonder if the church will be having other open houses and dedications during the SLC open house and dedication?

    1. I do think the fact that it is the primary stake for much of the Navajo Reservation may prevent it from being dissolved.

    2. Chinle Arizona Stake is more exclusively Navajo Reservation as Tuba City's stake covers other reservations.

If Tuba City is dissolved, all a but the the Cameron Branch would go to a stake with other units in the Navajo Nation. Assuming they have Cameron go to a Flagstaff stake. Flagstaff East Stake could use and administer to that branch as it would be the only branch in the stake.

  102. From the European Newsroom, Elder Dale G. Renlund, Elder Gérald Causeé, and Elder S. Mark Palmer of the Presidency of the Seventy are ministering in Europe. Given that many of the general areas the two apostles will visit have been mentioned on this very site before, is it possible we could see either or both apostle(s) announcing one or more new temples in the areas in which they are assigned to minster? In either case, having more than one apostle ministering on the same continent outside North America at the same time is likely no accident. I welcome any thoughts on this. 104. A large conference for the Piracicaba region will be held tomorrow in Sumaré with Elder Soares. Around 10,000 members from 9 to 12 stakes in the region are expected to attend. I'm living in Brasília now and no longer in contact with my leadership there, but my family is still in São Paulo and will be attending. I have a feeling that a meeting of this magnitude might lead to the announcement of another temple, but I could be very wrong about that. This movement might also signify realignments... If I find out any news, I'll let you know.

  105. An unexpected announcement from the Church this evening: ground was broken for the Fairview Texas Temple earlier today. Another temple groundbreaking to occur without advanced notice. Given the opposition to the temple, the fact that there was no advanced notice makes sense. I have confirmed that there is a national group generally opposed to the construction of any temples in the US who are stirring up locals in any community where they can in an effort to drum up opposition to temple construction. But as we see with announcements like this, and with rulings like the recent one from the Utah Supreme Court, that opposition is not always successful.

Grateful to have this news today. my thanks once again to you all.

    1. This is a conspiracy theory. There may be a couple communities that are giving the Special Projects Department some issues, but most (all) are local people with local concerns.

When there are protesters at open houses, they are usually from a small evangelical groups out west and have no connection to local-zoning based opposition.

Unless there is any evidence of your claim of a "national group," we would do well not to speculate ourselves into a victim complex.

The zoning complaints related to temples are often valid (the big Fairview design for example which wayyy surpassed the zoning envelope for the site). Of course you and I might hope that communities would decide to set aside those concerns and welcome a temple, but NIMBYism is not weird, not evil, not nationally organized, and Latter-day Saints do it too all the time.

    2. It's not speculation or a conspiracy theory. I have confirmed this through a few unimpeachable sources with firsthand knowledge on the matter, to say nothing of having verified it through extensive personal research of a wide range of other resources at my disposal.

    6. The protesters outside of the Pittsburgh open house were also not local (there were 2 of them) they had traveled all the way from Colorado.

Just like the Cumorah protesters, or the evangelical preachers by temple square, these are nuts who travel from far away with the delusion that someone will be moved by their attacks. They might be facebook friends with eachother, but to call them a national group or organization would be to aggrandize them past recongnizability.

  108. My predictions for April Conference (see link below). This includes all announcements, if any, that will be made between March 1 (because I announce my predictions about a month in advance) and August 31 2026 since announcements can happen outside of conference.

While I grouped my predictions in 5 different categories; however only the top two are counted in my overall scores. I personally consider a prediction successful if afterwards at least 1/3 of announcements were on my Top 20 and 1/2 were on my Top 60 (top two categories combined) lists. I do not score the other three lists, but shows how close or how far they were to making my top 60.

I didn't do well with April 2025 prediction, but succeeded with the ones before that. Only one announcement for October 2025 (6 month period) and it was in my Top 60 but not my Top 20 so I don't know what to make of that.

Total Oct 2023 to Feb 2026:
    68 Announced
    28 Top 20 (41.2%)
    18 Somewhat likely 40 (26.5%)

  109. A few notable differences between my prediction list and Mats. Matt's list I'm referring to is what is posted as of today. He may makes additions.
    * I have 1 prediction (always top 20) that covers the entirety of the Wasatch Front (Valley in front of the Wasatch Mountains) from North Ogden to Provo due to complexities of predicting within this area. Matt has 4 (2 more likely and two less likely)
    * Matt currently has has two categories with 185 temples (18 More Likely and 167 Less likely) that may vary in number. I have 4 categories (excluding my miscellaneous category) with a combined 180 temples with more strict cutoff requirements (Top 20, Somewhat Likely 40, 2nd group of 60, 3rd Group of 60).
    * I only count an announced temple if it is in a stake I listed as it's potential district (closest by distance). I think Matt has a slightly different approach to counting his.
    * I upgrade and downgrade temples when predicting the next conference periods. I believe temples on Matt's list stays there and does not downgrade until announced. I upgrades and downgrade due to new information, or impacts a newly announced temple. For example, Portland Maine announcement took a 3 stakes out of NH prediction which caused it to downgrade from my 1st group of 60 to my 3rd group of 60. Regionalization of announcements to areas, new or discontinued wards/stakes, and tweaks to my formulas, caused several upgrades and downgrades in rankings even though only one temple was announced over the last six months. I upgraded/downgraded rankings for about a third of my predictions since last conference. There were two changes on my "Top 20" even though none of my top 20 was announced last weekend.
    * Our methodologies of ranking temples probably differ. My methodology to what I consider is listed in the link below:

    1. Roughly 6 stakes and a district (36 wards and 9 branches) and at least 4 hours to the nearest temple. It did score the least of my 4 "Somewhat Likely" temples in Brazil, but not by much as all 4 of these scored close to the same. The main thing that counted against it was that it wasn't well grouped, meaning much of the prospective temple district will not have the same time savings if it was built.

The other strong possibility of an announcement within that temple district is São José do Rio Preto Brazil. I do count it if announced anywhere within the mentioned prospective temple district. Matt uses Araçatuba. The reason I used Birigüi is that it's a little closer to the other stakes within that district.

Within Brazil, Rio Branco Brazil scored by far the most. This is due the significant time savings for virtually all of its prospective temple district (16 wards and 17 branches). With 10 wards and a branch in the Rio Branco stake (9 wards being within the city), it should have enough local members and leadership to host a temple.

On a good day we had 20-30 people in attendance, which included the 2 sets of of missionaries. We met in a small building by the Catholic Church building, and the baptismal font had been made touching the building, but in a small space behind it. The font was made by missionaries before I got there. Sunday nights my companion and I would go mingle with the locals at the music events held there in the plaza in front of the Catholic Church. What fond memories! Thank you for this post, Chris!

  124. Elder Caussé will preside at a specal stake conference for Nice France stake in Marseille.(Acording ldsnewsroom, article is liked further up in the comments)

I think a temple anouncment on that occaion is possible, since southern France is laking a temple and other European countries with fewer members and stakes (like Portugal and Italy (same number of stake but fewer congregations)) already have a second temple anounced.

    1. That's exciting news. Also of note the Paris France South Stake (1984756) has 3 Conferences planned this year. It just had a conference this weekend 02/22, the second will be 04/19 and the third will be on 09/20. With several wards and branches.

    1. Chris, I am guessing that the Villa Hermosa Ward in Lima and those two wards in Praia Grande were both discontinued last week, and the fullerconsideration site hasn't quite updated to reflect that yet. I imagine they will show up as discontinued in the next couple days. If not however, that means the fullerconsideration site is less reliable than perhaps we thought, and shouldn't be trusted as giving a full snapshot on church growth.

  129. I think Elder Causse announcing a temple at a conference would fit with President Oaks Temple strategy. I have to admit most Sundays since the Portland Maine Temple was announced I have hoped to get another announcement.

Of course part of me also wonders if it is possible Elder Gong will either announce the Bulawayo Temple at the Harare Temple dedication or if it is possible there will be another occasion while he is in Zimbabwe to announce such a Temple.

  134. I would guess the Beira Chamba Stake, reported as having been approved for creation in the video here (which has now been made private on Youtube), will be organized March 14-15th. The Beira Manga and Beira Inhamizua stakes have a combined conference that day, and have a boundary near a region known as 'Chamba" on the map. At least 2 additional wards will need to be created in the stake split.

    3. It was organized February 15, 2026 at the Eket Nigeria Stake Conference. I had been monitoring the stake as one likely to divide (it had 12 wards plus 3 branches) and was anticipating a potential divide at this conference, but after it didn't show up on the meetinghouse locator after a week, plus I could find nothing about it on Facebook, I figured the stake hadn't been divided. However, that proves wrong.

  139. Elder Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve, recently visited Bucharest Romania and spoke at the Brașov Romania District conference this weekend, February 22, 2026. It has a 2nd conference this year on May 23-24, just 2 months from now. I wonder if the Q12 visit was a precursor to becoming 1st stake in Romania in 2 months. Maybe wishful thinking on my part. But we can always hope.

Where more than 600 people attended, including government and media, of the over 3,000 members in 15 Branches.

He also met with the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bucharest.
