Official LDS Membership Statistics Released for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro

The Church has released official, year-end 2014 membership statistics for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro for the first time. According to the statistics page on mormonnewsroom.org, the Church reported 61 members in Bosnia and Herzegovina and six members in Montenegro. These statistics indicate that church-reported membership in Bosnia and Herzegovina constitutes 0.0016% of the national population, or one LDS member per 63,394 people. Church-reported membership in Montenegro constitutes less than 0.001% of the population, or one LDS member per 107,846 people. The Church assigned the first young, proselytizing missionaries to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 2012 and to Montenegro in April 2012. Both countries pertain to the Adriatic North Mission.

  1. Looks like the Suva Fiji Temple Renovation still took place in spite of the cyclone.

  2. Montenegrans are cool people but they love alcohol. It is common for a house to have its own distillery. They have a large percentage of Muslims (maybe 17%) but Serb Orthodox are proud that their Muslim neighbors drink booze, too. It will take special work to convert these good folks. Hopefully they grow faster than the LDS in a tough Euro land like Greece. Hopefully it will grow more along the lines of Albania. I can't imagine much dynamic growth in Kosovo right now.

  4. There is a sister in my ward who is originally from Montenegro. Her daughter lives in the neighboring ward where her son-in-law is the bishop.

  5. Kosovo is actually doing quite well. Considering that Missionaries have been assigned there for only a couple of years, and the Church started there at practically zero, Kosovo is actually quite impressive. I have a friend who just returned from her Mission there, and there are some talks about a district being organized in two to three years.

I would go so far to say similar things about BH. 61 members, but two branches and one group that have each been functioning for most of the time that the Church has been established in the country, account for some good leadership development and convert retention. I can't think of another country with so few members but two branches.

  6. Very cool. Thanks for the updates. Reminds me numbers like the Isle of Mann, with obvious more potential. Take care.

  8. Just read about a city in Iceland (Akranes?) opening up in Iceland recently (late 2015). Maybe we could see a district in Iceland in a few years!
