- Colombia Medellin
- Ghana Kumasi
- Mexico Xalapa
- Mexico Puebla North
- Nevada Reno
- Vanuatu Port Vila
- Utah Salt Lake City Central
- Utah Salt Lake City West
Unlike recent years when several new missions have been announced, the Church has announced only one mission consolidation:
- Russia Moscow West
The total number of LDS missions will therefore increase from 340 to 347.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles announced to Africa West Area leaders that the Church would be creating seven or eight new missions in Africa this year. With two missions announced, it appears that another five or six new missions will be created later this year and announced by the Church at a later date.
Here is February and Year-to-date growth information from the CDOL:

ReplyDeleteI think more in Africa are unlikely for now, despite Elder Holland's comment. Once they publish the full list of presidents, usually that's it for the July change. That said there have been last minute "effective now" splits every so often.
ReplyDeleteIf the map is correct, the Salt Lake City Mission will still include Tooele, but will be completely detached from it by the West Mission?? I wonder if the boundaries shown in the Church News are incorrect or might change before July (which is what happened with St. George).
ReplyDeleteI think we are seeing something that will happen later this year in regards to additional missions in Africa. After all, Elder Holland stated "seven or eight" which makes me believe that these new missions are still in the works. Organized in 2007, the India New Delhi Mission was the last mission that was not created in July.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pending organization of the Angola Luanda Mission is proof that there is something more in the works, as well as the steady increase in the number of missionaries assigned to the South Africa Johannesburg Mission which at present appears to have over 200 missionaries.
Contrary to what some have said, not all missions are even created in July. As one will notice, even some of the listed mission presidents are TBA. The Mozambique mission was organized in January 2005 while the India New Delhi mission was organized Nov. 1, 2007.
ReplyDeleteThe Church news maps did not make it clear what was going on with the boundaries between the SLC and SLC South misisons.
ReplyDeleteI do not pay too close to the boundaries shown in the maps, it is hard to tell where the lines really are unless the maps have plenty of geographical markers, which they normally do not.
On the other hand, non-contiguous missions do exist, such as the one in El Salvador that also includes Belize or at least for a time the Lima Peru North Mission.
TZ = approx 7 branches
ReplyDeleteET = approx 6 branches
I'd be surprised if they became separate missions this early. It is possible, and i think it'd be great and perhaps the leadership have the stage set for a slew of new branches.
